Biography

Ivo Džinić was born in Vinkovci in 1975. In 1998 he graduated from the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Đakovo. In 2005 he graduated from the Catholic Faculty of Theology of the University of Vienna with the dissertation “Pastoral care with divorced and remarried divorcees in Croatia. A Challenge for Diakonia in the Church (Pastoral mit Geschiedenen und wiederverheirateten Geschiedenen in Croatia. Eine Herausforderung an der Diakonie in der Kirche)”. In 2014 he also defended the dissertation “The myth in the socio-political thought of Ernst Cassirer” at the University of Zagreb. From 2006 to 2014 he was employed at the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Đakovo, where he conducted courses in Pastoral Theology. From 2014 he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Cultural Studies at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek. Since 2018 he has been working as an associate professor at the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb.
He is a member of International Society of Pastoral Theologians of Central and Eastern Europe Post-Netzwerk in Vienna and of Croatian Philosophical Society in Zagreb. He has published two books and several scientific papers, participated in the domestic and international scientific and professional symposia and published his scientific and professional papers in the domestic and foreign journals. Prof. Džinić participated in the research project “Christian Identity and the quality of marriage and Family Life”, which was conducted in Croatia in 2008.
On 26 April 2016 he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Croatian Studies and on 18 May 2021 he was confirmed by a resolution of the Senate of the University of Zagreb. He will take office from 1 October 2021. His term of office will last three years.
He speaks Croatian, German, English and Italian and reads Latin and Ancient Greek.
He is married and the father of one child.
