Description:
Introduce students to the biographies of statesmen of the 20th century.
Accomplish the skills needed to use political biography, autobiography and memoirs in historical science.
Recognize the basic problems related to biographies, autobiographies and memoirs of statesmen and know the difference between scientific and methodological approach and journalism.
Distinguish the role of individual statesmen and through their actions notice the realization of their basic intentions and legacy.
Independently articulate their own point of view, improve critical thinking and gain their own standpoint according to a given issue.

Learning outcomes at the level of the programme to which the course contributes:
Define the historical course and processes inherent in individual historical periods;
Understanding of historical facts and processes of national and world history and their problems of interpretation;
Designate key actors and organizations that have marked world history and present basic information about them;
Memorize and describe basic types of historical literature and sources;
Understanding the use of different historiographical research tools (bibliography. Index. Catalogue. E-references);
Explain the cause-and-effect relationships between historical events and historical processes;
Define the specifics of individual historical periods and know the professional terminology;
Know and understand certain historical periods, historical facts and processes from European history, basic historical facts about world history, historical text and its credible interpretation, professional terminology, historical processes and their problems of interpretation, other research methods from humanities, social and ethical context historical sciences, scientific principles of historical science;
Research, writing and presentation of research work in which a certain historical topic is presented;
Orally and in writing present knowledge of historical data and processes on the selected historical question or problem;
Recognize the interdisciplinary features of history and its relevance to other areas of knowledge and to promote a range of moral, social and cultural values;
The ability to appropriately identify and use the scientific sources (bibliographies, documents, websites) in a range of humanities associated with history; ability to properly use historical terminology, analyse primary, secondary and tertiary historical sources, ability and information in the application of methods of humanities (language, literature, history, art history, archaeology, philosophy, etc.); The ability to use computers, the Internet and other technical and digital aids to process historical data;
The ability to adhere to the principles of academic integrity and ethical norms of research and publication
Adherence to grammatical orthographic and stylistic norms of the Croatian language in academic and non-academic discourse;
Recognition of the need and readiness for lifelong learning;
The ability to research and present research work and use different methods of communication;
The ability to independently read and critically analyse simpler historical texts and to defend one's own historical understandings and attitudes in an argumentative and rational way.

Expected learning outcomes at the level of the course:
Define statesmen as politicians who stands out in leading state and state policy (not all officials are statesmen), persons who have distinguished themselves as leaders of the people and left an impact in their period.
List influential statesman of the twentieth century.
Recognize key data from the part of world history that refers to individual state leaders.
Discuss the main participants and organizations that have marked the history of the 20th century.
Report on the type of historical literature and sources used during the course.
Analyse the causes and consequences of social, economic and cultural changes that have occurred during the period of individual statesmen.
Give an argued opinion about the roles and importance of leading statesmen of the 20th century.
Apply the acquired knowledge on researching other topics.
Demonstrate their knowledge about the role of statesmen in the form of seminars and presentations.

15. Closing lecture - recapitulation and, given the possibilities, one-day field classes (visit to a museum or similar location).
