The aims of the course are to introduce students with the definition, area, and objectives of media psychology; research methodology in the field of media psychology; describe the impact of the media on development outcomes, modern parenting, pedagogy, and education.
Additionally, to introduce students with programs of socio-emotional learning and contemporary research in the fields of emotional and media literacy, marketing psychology, group psychology, peer abuse psychology, positive psychology, and many others.
Learning outcomes at the level of the programme to which the course contributes:
Define, describe, and explain the relationship between psychology and the media and the central problems of that relationship.
Recognize, differentiate, evaluate, and critically evaluate media effects and their effects on man and his daily functioning.
Independently or in a team, to conduct scientific research in the field of communication and psychology with the help of modern scientific research methods and write scientific papers in a clear and organized manner.
Apply oral and written communication and presentation skills in Croatian (with a summary of the main conclusions in English).
Expected learning outcomes at the level of the course:
Distinguish areas, goals, and methods of media psychology.
Argue the impact of the media on individual development, modern parenting, upbringing, and education.
Distinguish between positive and negative aspects of media content consumption.
Evaluate the importance of media psychology in protecting and promoting mental health, prosocial behaviour, and empathy.
Analyse the results of contemporary research in the field of media psychology in order to integrate both fields.
